Sparks authorities said the teen is one of the youngest attempted-homicide suspects arrested in recent history.

The victim, whose identity was not released because he is a minor, was recovering Monday from critical stab wounds he suffered Friday night. Police said he is in stable condition in Washoe Medical Center.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested Easter morning on charges that he tried to stab a teenager to death in a Sparks elementary school parking lot, Sparks police said.

The teen was booked Sunday as an adult into the Washoe County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder, authorities said.

Detective Steve Fiore said several witnesses were interviewed related to the stabbing, which the teen admitted to committing, Fiore said.

About 20 juveniles affiliated with two local gangs met Friday night at Alice Maxwell Elementary School because two boys from opposite gangs were fighting about a girl, Fiore said.

Fiore said he wasn’t sure what sparked the fight between the teen suspect and the victim. During the attack, the victim was stabbed in the neck and chest, the detective said.
